I will be handing overthe Presidency to Colin Orr knowing that he sharesmy vision and will continue in the steps of thePresidents before us, with the honour this rolerequires. The CIAT yearPromotionExhibitionsIt was a bumper year for Institute attendance withrepresentation at shows including 100% Design, Ecobuild,the Selfbuild and Design Show, Sustainability Live! and TheNational Home Improvement Show, and with official supportfor many more. Due to the success of Chartered Membersoffering advice at Grand Designs Live in 2010, the Institutewas invited again to participate in 2011. A particularlyimportant event attended was the London Skills CareersShow, in order to promote Architectural Technology as acareer to 14-19 year olds. Reduced rate magazinesSpecial subscription rates for magazines continue: two newtitles (R3 and Modern Building Services) are just some ofthose which have been added to the growing list ofdiscounted titles for CIAT members. In the pressCIAT coverage in the press this year included items in Building Engineer, Housebuilder, Civil Engineering Surveyor,Contact, andSelfbuild.ie AT magazineATmagazine has engaged an advertising agency to increaseadvertising sales and thereby offset production costs. Highquality contributions from members continue to be received.EnewsletterTo increase the speed of CIAT news dissemination, a weeklyEnewsletter was launched in March. It has proved popularwith members and related professionals and has also attracted advertising revenue. Social media and website forumsCIAT has increased its online and social media presence,including setting up a discussion group on Linkedin and anumber of new discussion forums on the CIAT website. 4CIAT and the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (RICS)have arranged for Chartered Members of CIAT to join RICS asAssociate Members (AssocRICS). Chartered Surveyors canjoin CIAT as a profile candidate or Associate memberon theConstruction and Quantity Surveying pathway.CIAT continues to work closely with universities offeringHonours degrees in Architectural Technology and relatedprogrammes and in 2010/11, six have had theirAccreditation status successfully reviewed. Recognition of Masters degrees is a new development forCIAT and the Institute now Recognises three Masters degreelevel programmes. Graduates with a Recognised qualificationmeet the Institute's requirements for Associate membershipfor progression to Chartered Membership. The degreesoffered are as follows: Edinburgh Napier University: MScArchitectural Technology and Building Performance. SheffieldHallam University: MSc Technical Architecture. NottinghamTrent University: MSc Architectural Technology and Design.This recognises the achievement of graduating studentsfrom ourAccredited degreeprogrammes in ArchitecturalTechnology. To date, 11 students have received a certificateand cheque in individual ceremonies at their universities. CIAT held a two day training course on the Party Wall Act withthe Faculty of Party Wall Surveyors (FPWS), exclusively forCIAT members. The Education and CPD Administratorattended the UK Inter-Professional Group's CPD ForumConference entitled 'Professionalism and Business Success',and attends the Inter-Professional CPD Forums regularly.The Specialist Register Schemes continue to be successfulwith members being able to gain recognition for their skillsas Chartered Environmentalists, Accredited or RecognisedConservationists and On Construction Domestic EnergyAssessors.A fully revised and updated edition for 2011 has beenprinted, with the cover designed by a student member via acompetition.
