MEMBERSHIPDear fellow member As I mentioned in my last newsletter I was justabout to leave for my visit to Region 15,Northern Ireland and later in the week traveldown to Dublin to meet the members of Centre02, Republic of Ireland. As this was a difficultplace to reach from Jersey and would have takenup four working days, I decided to take a week'sholiday with my wife, which allowed us to flythere and back direct at the weekends and thenfit the two functions into our holiday. That week we met in Belfast with Jan Deluxe,PA to the Chief Executive and Adam Endacott,Public Relations Director, as well as severalmembers of the Region Committee, where weproceeded to review the venues for next year'sAGM and President's Annual Dinner Dance. We also had the opportunity to visit theunfinished Titanic building which will house theTitanic Museum and which without doubt willbe a spectacular place when complete. For thosewho may not know, the Titanic was built inBelfast, which has a very long history of shipbuilding, and 2012 is the centenary of its launch. To mark this anniversary some of the Institute'sevents will be based around the area known asthe Titanic Quarter.During the same visit, I gave my presentation atthe University of Ulster, to some 40 or soRegional members, students and their guests, asthis was followed by an awards ceremony to theleading students on the built environmentprogrammes. The following morning we took the train toDublin to meet our Centre 02 contingent and itwas lovely to meet up with a few 'old faces' thatI have not seen for a while. The 37 attendeeswere treated to a meeting with James Banks,Membership Director who gave a POP RecordWorkshop before I gave my Presidentialpresentation. Between us we gave what Ithought was a thorough and detailed review ofhow to join the Institute and where it standstoday, especially for our members studying andpractising in the Republic of Ireland, who assome of you are aware have difficulty in gainingrecognition. They can be rest assured that we asan Institute are working hard to rectify this andI say the same to them as to any of you, if youdo have difficulty in your everyday working lifewith a recognition issue, then please contact thestaff at City Road, so that we can tackle the issueas soon as possible. These two visits brought me to the end of a verybusy 12 week period where I managed tocomplete nine Regional and Centre visits, including Hong Kong, as well as six Awardpresentations, six meetings, a two- dayconference and a lunch to honour anotherInstitutes new president (and of course tocontinue with my day job, but hey, I wouldn'thave it any other way.) That leaves me with justfour Regions to visit in the autumn and then it isall over for me as President. The previous issue of ATsaw the last CIATTaskforce covered, so you have now received acomplete picture of the functioning of ourInstitute and how many of your fellow membersgive up their time freely to make this Institutefunction. With this issue you should have received yourcopy of the Annual Review. I hope you enjoyreading about what the Institute has been doingin the past year on your behalf.Regards,Barry Le BeuvantPRESIDENT'SNEWSLETTERPresident'snewsletterThe Titanic Museumwill without doubt bea spectacular placewww.bbseven.comFREE INITIAL DESIGN APPRAISALS | t 0870 974 7706 e info@bbseven.comCHALLENGING THE ACCEPTED WISDOM & PUSHING BOUNDARIES WITHOUT COMPROMISING SAFETYven.APPRAISALS|t0870 bbseven.www.bbsevATSEPTEMBER/OCTOBER20113
