Mostare owned by individuals and run on acommercial basis. The sites in this brochure really are the'cream of the crop' and we have no hesitationin recommending them. They are selectedand handpicked by members of our teamwho are experienced in all types of camping. They are regularly inspected by us and offera range of different types of campsites tomeet the varied camping needs of you, theClub member. We believe they are amongthe best in Europe, whether they be largesites with many facilities, or small ones withlittle more than comfortable pitches, cleansanitation and a friendly welcome. Becausethese sites are picked by us and areconsidered the best of the best, we don'tshow official star ratings, which generally arebased on quantity rather than quality andvary so much from country to country. Please note that reading online forumreviews of sites have led members to cancelin the past. This incurs charges. Be wary ofreviews and remember the sites in thisbrochure are picked because they providegood service to members. Do your researchbefore you book, not after. Site descriptionsThis year, site descriptions have been keptbrief as we encourage you to go online forthe comprehensive information andassociated links for each campsite. If youdon't have an internet connection, thenplease phone us and we'll be only too happyto help you make the right choice. We still give you a brief flavour of thecountry and regions together with adestination map where sites are plotted forrelative distance and page number. At the top of the site description is theCarefree site code, opening dates and sitename. Each site is different and will appeal todifferent tastes so we try to give a flavour ofthe site, its location and facilitiesto helpensure it fits with your own requirements. Asan indication of the size of the site, the totalnumber of pitches is given including staticpitches. All distances are approximate. If afacility is listed as 'nearby', it is within 500yards of the site entrance. If it's said to be'planned' or 'provisional' for next year then itmeans just that. The price box gives the public tariff nightlycost of your pitch for a unit with two people, plus any extra supplements. Go online to geta full quote.Site chainsThe Castels chain theme is vieilles pierres(old stones), with many sites in the groundsof châteaux or old buildings. The Sites andPaysages chain offers smaller, personal, ruralsites. English spokenWhere we say that English is spoken itmeans that someone - maybe more thanone person - in the site's regular receptionteam speaks fluent, or particularly goodEnglish (this may not be the case for stafforganising activities). Only on a few sites isalmost no English spoken. Please ask if this isimportant to you. Pitch sizesIn France, pitches usually average from 80m2to 100m2and are often bordered by hedgesor shrubs. Pitches outside France generallyare smaller, often ranging from 60m2to80m2, although there can be exceptions. Ifyou have a large unit, you may prefer to visitthese countries in low season. As these are not UK Club Sites, there is no 6mrule and units, especially in more popularareas, may be as little as one metre apart, particularly in high season. In Italy, Spain and Holland you sometimeshave to park your car in a car park, not onyour pitch. Pitches are generally booked for one unit, which is either a car accompanied by a tent, caravan or trailer tent, or a solo motorhome. If you're bringing an awning, pup tent, second car or pet please tell us so we caninform you of any charges. When booking, it's really important to let usknow your unit's overall size, when fullypitched, including tent guy lines when fullyextended and caravan tow bars. Maximumunit lengths and heights include anything ontop or on the sides of the unit. It helps us toensure you get the space you need andidentifies any site restrictions. You may needto book a second pitch if your unit andequipment cannot fit on a 100m2pitch.Special requestsPlease let us know at time of booking if youhave any special requests, but bear in mindthat it may not always be possible toaccommodate your specific needs and can'tbe guaranteed. All pitch types are alwayssubject to availability. Site booking feesMost campsites charge booking fees anddeposits. If you book through Carefree, you'llavoid the booking fee if you book a site, plusferry or insurance together. If you do wantsite only, we charge a one off fee of £15which is better value if booking more thanone campsite at a time. A £20 late booking fee applies if you bookwithin 7 days of the due date of arrival onthe site. This will apply whether booking inthe UK or already abroad.Single parents or solo campersDepending on how each site charges forpitches, we may be able to get a better dealfor single-parent families and solo campers- rest assured we'll sort out the best price for you. Site facilities in low and highseasonLow seasonThe majority of sites only operate their fullfacilities during the peak local holidayseason, which doesn't always match UKholiday dates. Shops, bars, take-aways, poolsand other services on- and off-site may beclosed outside these dates. The great newsis that prices often reflect this and siteowners have more time to spend with theircampers. Please ask if particular facilities areimportant to you outside high season.
