15The high-quality care provided is mirrored by the fact that I have had no returns to theatre.""

16Spire Healthcare Annual Review 2010We continue to care for NHS patients as a useful supplement to our main stream of revenue, and during the year we achieved our strategy of maintaining a steady level of NHS work. Into 2011 we see new government policy as very positive for the private sector and Spire is positioning itself to capture opportunities as they arise and support the public sector through times of rapid and significant change.%PMI: 61NHS: 25Self-pay: 14Analysis of funding source of admissions in 2010? The UK private healthcare market showed resilience during the economic downturn and, as the economy recovers, we expect to see significant growth.UK healthcare market dynamics and outlookThe UK private healthcare market showed resilience during the economic downturn and, as the economy recovers and new government healthcare policy is implemented, we expect to see significant growth. Anticipated public spending cuts and changes to commissioning are creating opportunities for private healthcare providers to grow private patient activity as well as work with and support the public sector in delivering a comprehensive and efficient UK healthcare service. In particular, we have increased our focus on engaging with GPs - traditionally the 'gate-keepers' of private healthcare treatment. A recent survey carried out by Spire Healthcare in conjunction with leading GP publication 'Pulse' demonstrated that 41% of GP respondents say they will refer more patients for privately funded treatments in the future and 31% are likely to make more referrals for private treatment in 2011 alone. A number of strategies are in place to maximise our share of these referrals.Spire Healthcare stands as the second largest provider in the private acute hospital market, with our share of beds at 18%*. Our private medical insurance (PMI) funded hospital activity contracted slightly, along with the rest of the industry, as a result of fewer lives covered by insurers. We anticipate recovery as the economy emerges from recession. Driven by marketing, the number of self-funding patients increased 3.2% year-on-year and delivered a healthy stream of revenue. Whilst we've made significant gains in self-pay, we believe there are further opportunities for this sector to grow to 2007 levels, which was the peak for self-pay revenue in the last six years.Business review* Laing & Buisson Independent Healthcare Establishment Data Sheet as of 4 February 2011.?
