19We now offer an extended range of out-patient and diagnostic services that account for almost 30% of our revenue. Demand for diagnostic imaging in orthopaedics, general surgery and cancer is rising and our 22 MRI and 18 CT scanners are key diagnostic tools for consultants. In 2010 we purchased London Fertility Centre and opened IVF Scotland, and now have seven satellite fertility clinics opened or in development in Spire hospitals. We anticipate that changes in UK demographics and the NHS decline in provision of fertility services offer considerable growth potential, and our strategy is to become the major national private provider of fertility services in the UK. As we expand our fertility business there is scope for us to establish clinics in more of our hospitals.Through our partnership with CancerPartnersUK we are able to offer the most advanced techniques including Intensity Modulated Radiotherapy and image-guided radiotherapy. Together we are raising the overall quality and availability of cancer radiotherapy and chemotherapy services across the UK - creating a network of world-class cancer facilities coupled with highly trained local medical teams. PeopleAt Spire Washington Hospital Shelagh Alderson was given the opportunity to restructure the theatre department. As a result, consultant satisfaction improved 24 percentage points year-on-year and staff retention increased dramatically."Having developed the radiology service in my former role as Paramedical Services Manager, I was given the greater responsibility to restructure the theatre department.We appointed new team leaders, up-skilled staff and integrated the theatre and in-patient bookings team. That means we can now more effectively manage theatre lists, bring in resources when they are required and ensure theatres are available for consultants when they need them. We also reduced our consumables and purchasing spend by reassessing current suppliers and achieving compliance with the panel prosthesis.The restructure has resulted in consultant satisfaction increasing, the hospital taking on more complex work and there is now a waiting list to join our team.
